Yay a skincare post! These are becoming my favourites to make lately. I’ve always loved skincare products and makeup, but since I’m discovering new clean skincare brands I just can’t stop! This post is going to be about my double cleansing routine with some new toxic free skincare products that I’ve discovered recently and how I use them with a new fun tool.

First of all, what is double cleansing?

Double cleansing is basically cleansing your face twice. The first cleanse is done to remove all makeup and any dirt on the surface. The second cleanse is to remove any possible residue left and to go a level deeper to really make sure your skin is clean.

I find that the first cleanse is more effective with either micellar water or with an oil. You can use coconut oil, jojoba oil or any other good quality oil that works for you.

For the second cleanse, I like to use a good quality cleanser with nice ingredients that will treat and hydrate my skin. I also like to use a cleansing tool to go deeper into the skin and make sure I’m removing any traces of dirt.

Why is double cleansing necessary?double cleansing with toxic free skincare

If you do your makeup early in the morning and come back home in the evening, your skin will have a lot of product build up accumulated through the day.

The best way to make sure you are removing any traces of dirt from your skin is by double cleansing.

If we remove our makeup by cleansing our skin just once,  we might remove most of it, but try and do a test. Grab a clean cotton pad with a bit of micellar water and swipe it through your face. Look at the cotton pad and see if it’s clean.

It probably isn’t. And that’s why we should double cleanse!

But it’s not just about cleansing. It’s about cleansing with the right products that will clean your skin gently but effectively and will nourish it and hydrate it.

This is how I’ve been doing it lately.

First Cleanse: Using a good quality oil cleanser

I had heard about Pai Skincare many times, but it wasn’t until watched makeup artist Katie Jane Huges removing a full face of makeup super easily with their Light Work Rosehip Cleansing Oil that I decided to give it a try.

The texture of this cleanser is like a light oil and the scent is citrusy. I personally love any citrus scent so I’m very happy with this one.

I apply 2-3 pumps, warm it in my hands and rub it gently all over my face. I love to take my time with this because it’s important to break down all the makeup before going to the second step.

First I close my eyes and rub gently on the eyelashes to make sure I remove all the mascara. I normally use waterproof mascara (hello Singapore humidity) so it takes some time to break it down. Then, with panda eyes, I keep working the oil through the rest of my face.

Then I wet my hands with clean water and go in again all over the face. This oil turns into a milky cleanser when you mix it with water, so it’s perfect to really remove all the makeup. After that second round I wash my face with clean water and tap it dry a bit with a clean cloth.

Second cleanse: really working to get it all offdouble cleansing with toxic free skincare

For the second cleanse I use the Natura Bisse Diamond Luxury Cleanser. This brand uses high quality ingredients it’s made in Spain. I like that they have a foundation that works with vulnerable people through various initiatives. This brand is used in professional salons and spas, but it’s also available online. I discovered this cleanser after using a sample I got from the salon where I get my facials done in Spain and I fell in love with it.

It has an oil-gel texture that transforms into a milky froth in contact with water. I take a dime size amount and rub it in between my hands. Then work it on my skin for a few seconds, wet my hands and I go in again.

Then I leave everything on and use the Foreo cleansing tool to really work the cleanser all over my face. I find that this step really makes a difference. Using a cleansing tool is something I was never attracted to because I have very sensitive skin. Only by looking at the Clarisonic I can feel my skin itching!

But the Foreo is made to be super gentle on sensitive skin. Although is not made from a sustainable material, I think this is a tool that you can have and use for many, many years. You don’t need to replace the header, and it even comes with a sensor that tells you how your skin’s hydration levels are. A feature which I personally love to use. I also love this mini version that I have because I can take it with me when I travel and it doesn’t take much space at all. The battery also lasts ages.

Once I’ve gone through my face with the Foreo, I wash it all off with clean water. Then I go in with the rest of my skincare, usually a serum and a night cream or oil. Obsessed with May Lindstrom’s Blue Cocoon and Youth Dew. But that is material for a different post…

In the meantime, here are more clean skincare and makeup posts that you can check out if you are looking for something different.

Let me know your thoughts about double cleansing and whether you incorporate it to your skincare routine or if it’s too much work for you!

Besitos
