Strolling around Tiong Bahru

Today we went to Tiong Bahru for brunch at one of my favorite places in Singapore, Plain Vanilla Bakery. They have the best avocado on toast with poached eggs of the country, hands down. And amazing cupcakes too!

Tiong Bahru is a kind of hip and nostalgic neighborhood area, with very cool architecture and filled with shops and cafes. So after filling up our bellies we went for a walk around the area, to take some pictures and do some shopping. I highly recommend to visit this area of Singapore if you want to see some art and creativity. Among my favorite shoppes were:

  1. Stragelets, a beautiful homeware and crafts shop that is sadly going to close soon. The whole shop is now 50% off! I got very cool little gift cards for a great price!
  2. Books Actually, the coolest vintage book store where you can easily spend the whole afternoon looking around.
  3. Woods in the Books, a different kids book store. Just the front door tells you it is somewhere you want to step in. I went crazy inside, wanting to buy every book for my nephews. They have the most delicate, carefully illustrated  beautiful books for kids you have ever seen.

Disclaimer: Uniqlo is a Japanese brand that belongs to the Fast Retailing Group. In 2007 they created the “Uniqlo Recycle” initiative, by which they encourage consumers to donate the garments they are not wearing anymore, and the company distributes them among refugees and other disaster victims (they provided about US$33M in clothing and financial aid in the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011), homeless people and pregnant and single mothers in need. They have partnered with UNHCR and according to the information they disclose, as of August 2016 they have  donated over 20,000,000 of garments all around the world. 

The company also publishes a magazine called “The Power of Clothing” that they distribute in stores and where they tell about the stories of the people they work with and what they can do as a clothing company to make the world a better place.
